Sinclair ScoresFor 40 years Sinclair scores have been in use for comparing lifters of different body weights. The score is obtained by multiplying the lifter's Snatch and Clean & Jerk total by a coefficent, which is based on body weight and gender. The total lifts of the gold medal winners in every weight class at each Olympic Games were used to determine the formula for calculating the coefficients. Thus, Sinclair coefficients and scores were only valid for the four-year period commencing on 1 January of the year immediately following an Olympic Games. Sinclair coefficients 2021 ‑ 2024 Accounting for AgeMeltzer-Faber coefficients (for men) or Huebner-Meltzer-Faber (for women) attempt to take account of the fact that an athlete's strength and speed generally begin to diminish after about the age of 30. These can be used in combination with Sinclair coefficients (for example, in Masters' competitions) to produce a 'Sinclair-Meltzer-Faber' or a 'Sinclair-Huebner-Meltzer-Faber' score. The calculator can be used to find your 2024 Sinclair score and (if 30 or older your age -adjusted score. You can download a Sinclair spreadsheet here, based on the 2024 coefficients. Recent Changes! From 2025, the International Masters Weightlifting Federation will be using "Q‑Masters points" to standardise performance across age and bodyweight. Just to add further complication, the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) are recommending the use of 'Robi' points, from 2025, for 'normalizing' scores between elite competitors lifting in different bodyweight classes. |
