Concept 2 Indoor Rowing Calculator
The calculator shows equivalent rowing intensities expressed as pace (minutes & seconds/500m), as power
applied through the handle (Watts) and as the approximate overall rate of energy expended by the rower (Cal/hr).
Calorie expenditure is based on a rower weighing 175lb and assumes that, of the energy expended in doing work against the resistance
of the rowing machine, only 25% is available to do that work. An additional 300Cal/hr is assumed to be expended during the activity
that doesn't contribute directly to overcoming resistance at the handle. The calculator assumes this amount will be proportional to
the weight of the rower.
You can enter an intensity directly using one of these measures, or find the average intensity based on the distance and time of a row.
If a weight is also entered, the calorie calculations are adjusted to take account of the rower's weight and will differ from values
displayed on the C2 Performance Monitor unless the rower weights close to 79.4kg (175lb).
Stroke power index (SPI) is the intensity in Watts divided by the stroke rate. It represents the Joules of work done per stroke
divided by 60.
